A supportive and risk-free environment is cultivated daily in our classroom. Community is the heart of our class and our carpet is the center of our community. Gathering together, we build community and trust, as well as expand language skills. My students love gathering several times each day to participate in interactive read alouds, shared writing, literacy and math games, and much more. They gather with partners and in cooperative learning groups to expand their content knowledge and expand their language. Children need softness in their physical surroundings in order to be comfortable and relaxed, especially children of poverty. Being comfortable and relaxed allows the brain to retain new information.

About my class
