Every student in my classroom has a unique voice and we are working on learning how to become contributing members of not only our classroom and school communities, but the larger world around us. We are learning to become more independent and mature learners; becoming more advanced readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and thinkers, digging deeper into topics and beginning to analyze what we learn. In our class we are family. We treat each other with respect and we support each other. This dynamic empowers my students to strive to achieve their highest potential. One of our classroom norms calls for us to embrace failure. Creating a community in which my students feel empowered to take risks as learners, understand that it is ok to fail, and ultimately come away knowing is not most important that we failed, but that we can learn from in our failure and improve upon the next time is exciting.
