Our students come from middle to low socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of these students live in single parent households or blended families. In Cameron High School we have 350 students. Out of that amount 110 students are in my 7th and 8th grade classes. My classroom is set up with a mixture of group participation and leveled independent work. Children sit in groups of 2 to 3 to encourage peer assistance and discussion about real world topics. I use hands on map activities, daily questions of the day, "On This Day in History" facts, mixed with technology (interactive remote answering devices, videos, and laptops ) to keep my students engaged.
