Making learning accessible is what special education is all about. My middle school students who struggle with math need repeated modeling, visual supports, and access to several different methods of problem solving. A document camera will allow me to provide these tools to my students, regularly, inside of the general education classroom. Middle school students are very aware of their differences from their peers. Being pulled out of the general education setting for reteaching of basic skills can be embarrassing and discouraging. A document camera will allow me to teach and reteach skills, inside of the general education classroom, without leaving a paper trail of evidence that some students needed something different than their peers to access the same information. This camera will also reduce our extensive of chart paper, chart markers, sticky notes, and wall space which could be better used by the students.
