Novel sets that explore current and relevant social issues will engage and inspire my students. Our concluding unit is Agents of Change. Access to stories of individuals that have challenged cultural oppression and achieved greatness are the types of stories that will inspire my students to do the same. The materials we currently have access to are the same materials many of my students' parents used when they were in middle school and high school. They are old, very used, and falling apart. Despite being in a low income/high poverty school district, my students deserve new materials that are relevant to their education. I am requesting class sets of the novels Refugge, Tracks, and A Long Walk to Water: Based on a True Story.
