Part of our daily routine is breaking into groups to work on an assortment of activities. One of the daily activities is getting on the computers to do different reading programs. I only have four computers in my classroom and the groups usually consist of six or more. Students are constantly being left out having to do something else during their computer time. The Chromebooks will allow for everyone in a group to get the instruction they need on a regular basis. These reading programs help students improve their proficiency, fluency, phonics, comprehension etc. & are a great tool to help the children who do not speak English as their first language. These programs require the use of headphones. Many of the headphones I have now are old, have loose wiring, and only work sometimes. A lot of the students choose not to use them because of these problems. This does not allow them to get the most effective use of the different programs as sound is a necessity. I want the resources & materials to help strengthen all aspects of their reading and give them consistent practice. I want everyone to move up at least one grade level this year! Most of the children in my classroom are reading below grade level & more than just one year behind. This technology will allow the students to individually work on things that will address their personal needs. They will be able to use these Chromebooks & headphones on a daily basis to individually strengthen their reading skills.
