Students in my classroom have educational needs beyond, or in addition to, those met by traditional schools in my district. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and life situations. For many, this is the last chance to earn their high school diploma. Some are already parents, others have been home-schooled and now are attending our school while others thrive more in a smaller classroom setting like we provide. Due to these varied situations, students need additional support in their learning, specifically, they need more hands-on learning opportunities that relate to the real-world. Due to very limited funding at our school, we can only provide a lecture setting. I prefer to do more hands-on lab type of learning so students can feel, see, and connect their learning and find joy in that experience. I also hope that each of them will take this learning with them beyond high school.
