I teach second grade in a Los Angeles Valley elementary school. Although I teach all subject matter, I particularly emphasize exposing my students to various forms of writing. Poetry is one of our state standards that I teach throughout the year. Every day, students in my class take turns reading a poem to the class. I also introduce a different type of poem to my students each month. They then replicate the format of the poem into their own poetry. Art is also incorporated with each poem.
