The available number of calculators at our school are decreasing every year. Calculators do not last forever, and we do not have the funds in our department to replace them. Due to the high number of low-income families, we also have a hard time collecting any kind of fees from our students to pay for batteries and less expensive supplies. Our community cannot afford to replace or supply multiple calculators each year. As more of an emphasis is made on standardized testing, it is essential to my students' success that we have working calculators. Even students with strong math skills struggle sometimes to calculate numbers when under the pressures of a standardized test. I take great pride in my students' work. They deserve every resource I can give them to succeed in the classroom and outside.
