My ELA students are an eclectic bunch of bright, beautiful children from a proudly diverse and historic community. Approximately 70% of our students are children of color, and our Title-1 school provides free lunch to all students that wish to partake. In spite of incredible, hard-work and dedication from teachers and students alike, our school district struggles deeply with attaining proficiency in English Language Arts. It is not uncommon for students to test 2 or 3 grade-levels behind their goal. I believe reading authentic, classic novels is the key to proficiency! My students adore The Chronicles of Narnia novels by C.S. Lewis! They would absolutely love having the guaranteed ability to read all 7 books each year as a class! Reading the entire Chronicles of Narnia series each year is a legacy I would love to be able to leave my students each year that I teach!
