Every child learns best in different environments. In my classroom, I currently have standard desks and chairs. Although some kids prefer this, I often notice the students moving on their own to either sit on the floor or stand, as the chairs are hard to sit in for longer periods of time. The project I have created will help provide different alternatives for students to sit at. There are rugs, pillows, cushions, and stools that will give the students different choices of seating to use while they work. These seating options will not completely replace what I currently have in my room, as I do have a few students who learn best sitting at a desk and working. They will simply provide an alternative for students who don't do well sitting in a chair. The "work easel" will be used for small group discussions and is mobile so that it can follow the kids around the room rather than forcing students to come to the front of the room to learn. By adding an easel and alternative seating to my classroom, by students will have the power to choose a spot in the classroom that will benefit their learning the most.
