During graduate school, I completed an action research project focused on student literacy at the middle school level. My research proves that environment impacts students' perceptions of literacy. If a comfortable environment is provided, students--especially reluctant readers--will be more likely to fully engage in the reading process. For this reason, I provide students with the freedom to choose their seating arrangements during free reading time. They're used to this protocol; however, the hand-me-down beanbags that we have do not accommodate all students. As a result, only a few lucky students have the opportunity to use a beanbag. With this project, I hope to add more bean bags to our classroom. For this project, I am hoping to expand the comfort level of the classroom library!
