I have taught this novel many years and it inevitably becomes every students' (no matter male or female) favorite read of the year. Having a classroom set will give each student access to their own copy which they can read, comprehend and analyze. Students will learn new vocabulary. Students will read for fluency. Students will read to answer text dependent questions and demonstrate comprehension. Students will participate in literature circles and discuss the novel. Students will explore poetry with Robert Frost's "Stay Gold." Students will complete a narrative writing activity after completing the novel. Students will be given a chance to interact with the novel and achieve comprehension which is the goal of reading.
