Art students love to be recognized for making quality work. Like students who play on sports teams or in drama, art students need a venue for showing off their talents. The "uniform" canvases convey the notion that the work is to be taken seriously, that the students are in this together, and that the show, like a game, is a special time. Painting on canvas allows student work to be displayed and appreciated in a meaningful venue. It gives younger students something to aspire to. After a great deal of practice, they may graduate to painting on canvas with all of the (student) artists who came before them.
