This photo shows Barnet students and staff with teaching artist Evelyn Glennie, the world renowned percussionist. My students range in age from 3 to 14, with all students PreK through 8th grade having regular access to music class. I teach general music and instrumental music. Students in grades 5 through 8 can join band and jazz band after they have played their instruments for a year. I also teach middle school electives: ukulele, guitar, digital composing and recording, chorus and songwriting. We are located in tiny Barnet, Vermont in the 'Northeast Kingdom.' 42% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. Many live on local farms, and enjoy our school gardens, nature trails, chicken coop, outdoor classrooms and our giant outdoor bread oven, which was built by students.
