I have worked hard and spent considerable money of my own to make sure my students have a fun and cozy environment where they can select their own books and curl up to read. I've been picky about the books I've included and ensured they are displayed in a way that the children can see their covers, which is important in early grades for promoting self-selecting texts. Currently, our reading spot can be used by about 8-10 students at a time. I'd like to broaden it to include several reading niches so the entire class may use the literacy areas simultaneously. That expansion would consist of three soft seats and two big floor pillows to begin with. This seating will enable another 5-7 students to use the library, which means in total it could serve from 13 to 17 students at one time, or roughly half the class. I'd like to add the letter pocket chart to enable small group work in the centers and improve whole class literacy skills by using it in our daily letter/word work reviews.
