I want to bring the joy of discovery to my physics students. I interact with students from all areas of life-- some will go on to four year universities, and some will be content to finish high school. Every single one of my students should know how electricity works before they leave the physics classroom; having multiple methods of instruction (hands-on as well as lecture and notes) is critical for reaching those students with lower drive. Being able to physically create and discover ignites a passion in students for learning, much more than any slideshow presentation ever would. In the physics classroom, physical modeling and hands-on learning are key to success. I teach classes of students who require vastly different methods of support-- I have students for whom the hardest part of the school day is understanding the language being spoken around them, and I have students who desperately crave a challenge. Both extremes, and every student in between, benefit from hands-on applications of skill much more than filling out a worksheet or watching a video of someone else doing the work. My students need the technology to put the learning into their own hands. I am asking for 20 circuit kits, so that in my general physics class I can have students work in partners with a few to spare for instruction, and in my basic physics class the students can work individually so as to have the specific, specialized support they need to succeed.
