My students need electronic e-readers to keep up with the demands of meeting the Common Core State Standards. We are not a 1 to 1 computer school and our students do not have much access to technology inside the classroom or at home. The Kindle Fires will help me work with students in using technology as an additional way to access the content in our classroom and beyond. The Kindle Fires will open doors to books that are unavailable in our classroom or school library due to a lack of funding and resources. In addition to providing access to a wealth of information via the internet, the Kindle Fires will give my students the ability to read rich authentic texts and eBooks. After reading these texts, they will then be able to take online quizzes that measure their comprehension, which will help me tailor my future lessons based on their specific strengths and needs. These Kindle Fires and protective cases will serve multiple purposes for our students in the classroom. By having these available, I will be able to create a listening center to help improve my students' listening comprehension and English language skills. Another benefit of adding this technology into our classroom would be the fun factor. I anticipate my students staying more engaged in reading and strengthening their stamina, which will benefit them as they prepare for state testing, enhance their English and Spanish language abilities and improve their reading skills for years to come.
