Hands on learning is a necessity for many special needs children! I teach a 12:1:2 special education class at the kindergarten-first grade level. I teach students with a variety of disabilities, including cerebral palsy, down syndrome, autism and ADHD. With the new Common Core Standards in place for math, the focus on learning math skills has become much more hands on. In order to teach my special needs students many of these skills, a variety of manipulative's are now a necessity.
