I would like to implement something new in my classroom this school year - FLEXIBLE seating! By allowing students the choice of where (and how) they are going to sit/stand during instruction and work time, they are making the choice for what learning environment works bests for them and what seating option allows them to focus best in the classroom. How many adults would enjoy sitting at a hard chair and desk for 8 hours every day? Probably not very many, and students are no different! Think of it like "coffee shop seating". One day you might go to a local coffee shop to get some work done and you prefer to sit at a desk, while another day you go to that same coffee shop, but prefer to sit on the couch. Why should a classroom be any different? With the help of your donation, I would like to add flexible seating options such as balance balls, stools, bean bags, and chair pads for the students to use on a daily basis. In addition to the many education benefits to flexible seating in the classroom, there are also numerous health benefits to the students, both short and long term - things such as burning more calories, higher metabolism, significant improvement in their posture, and increased oxygen flow to the brain. We can all agree that not everyone learns new things in the same way - well the same goes for the environment that students are in. The older option of desk and hard chair doesn't work for everyone, so with your help, I would like to give my students multiple seating choices for them though out our school day, so that each student can truly find what works the BEST for them.
