I have fifteen 2nd and 3rd graders in my after school class. They all come from at risk families, living at or below the poverty level. Many of them are a challenge to teach because the hardships they face at home affect their ability to learn and stay focused. We use a classroom after school with materials that belong to the day teacher. I have to bring my own materials into the classroom to use for my students using an old cart because I do not have my own storage space to keep materials in the classroom. All our materials and games are donated, or gently used.
