The students at HES are hands-on, fully immersive learners who come into my school with smiles and youthful energy. They love hands-on, active, engaging projects that challenge them and get them out of their seats while utilizing critical thinking skills. We have a large open library that we can safely distance students to engage in projects and challenges. Located in rural Southwest Virginia, our school is surrounded by farmland, small businesses, and small-town community spirit. We serve many underprivileged and struggling families in our district as local employment opportunities are not abundant. Our school qualifies 100% for Free and Reduced Lunch. We were recently chosen as a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. My Project The library is the heart of our school and is used for many multi-purpose activities. It is not only used for library classes it is used for extension activities, guidance, gifted lessons, music, art, and professional development for teachers. A large TV would allow us to socially distance our students while they would still be able to follow along with instruction projected to the TV. Now more than ever teachers who use the library need technology more than ever to deliver quality instruction while maintaining a safe distance.
