Research proves that the more students read, both at home and in school, the higher they achieve in school. We are aiming to boost students' love for books and reading! This coming year, our desire is to foster this love for literacy with a reading incentive program for our ENTIRE SCHOOL! While we believe that academics are extremely important, we also believe that students should develop a love for literacy. Our game plan is to divide the year into four quarters followed by an incentive program for each quarter. We are going to invite students to participate in celebrations for reaching reading goals based on their individualized reading goals set with their teachers. The first quarter will be a popcorn and movie celebration called Pop into a good book. The second will be a dance celebration with hot chocolate served. The third quarter will be celebrated with an outside celebration with different games for the kids to play. This will have jump ropes, kick ball, etc. The final celebration will be a carnival theme. We will do face painting and carnival games. Our belief is that the students will be motivated by the celebrations to work toward their reading goals and along the way will fall in love with the books themselves. Our hope is that as that love develops, so too will their literacy skills.
