Beyond allowing my students to choose their seat, flexible classroom seating will allow my students to sit or stand in a way that will best meet the needs of their body and comfort level. I have chosen items such as the stand up table with the adjustable stools so the students can either stand at the table or use the stools to sit there. I have also chosen two leather beanbags and four Big Joe Roma chairs that will give the students the opportunity to choose a relaxed, comfortable seat to work on their personalized learning assignments. The futon I have chosen will also give the students the choice to sit more comfortably, however they will be able to sit with a small group of two or three together when working with groups during station rotation. The four Inflatable Balance Ball Chairs will be used at a station of four desks where my students will be able to work while helping get the 'wiggles' out of their system. The flexible seating in my classroom will assist students in physically becoming more comfortable while they are learning. This will help maximize personalized learning in the classroom for each individual child. Flexible seating can help improve metabolism, use excess energy, allow better oxygen flow to the brain, and increase motivation and engagement. This will then help my students achieve higher academic performance as well as improved health and behavior.
