The shelves in this project will be used in room 201 for years and years to come. Because Burley School doesn't have a library, I house hundreds of books in my classroom. Many of them are shelved in hard to reach places where my students have trouble accessing them. In addition, there currently isn't room for my entire library to be displayed at once. New shelves that are all cohesive and the same size will allow my students to access and explore my entire library! They'll have the opportunity to see and pick up books they may have never before considered. Access to new books is significant to learning. As author James Gleick says "reading—even browsing—an old book can yield sustenance denied by a database search." Students these days have become more and more technologically savvy, and it is more important than ever that students have the ability to pick up a good book!
