At my school, we have reading enrichment/intervention for a 30 minute block each day. I LOVE this time of the day, because I teach math and science the rest of the day, but for half an hour I get to do a book study with a group of high readers, with a focus on building vocabulary as well as students' ability to respond to literature by engaging in book talks. One of my favorite books to use is a classic written in the 1940s, "My Father's Dragon". In the past few years, I have borrowed a class set from another school in my district. Last year when I returned them, there were several books with loose pages falling out. I would really like to have a set of my own, since this is a book I look forward to using every year. In addition, I'd like to create a cozy space for reading in the classroom, so I would like a small rug and some throw pillows to set that up.
