Students will study the cultural origins and uses of masks. Students will then find inspiration within the various origins and design their own character masks. Each mask will then be created using mask facial molds and paper mache. After the masks have dried, students will then paint each mask according to their design. Students will then use their masks in multiple performance activities in order to understand the depth of character and purpose within their designs. All of the materials requested will not only assist in mask creation, they will also become classroom essentials for most crafts and artistic design creations in the curriculum. The markers and colored pencils are for the design process in which the students will design a mask based on a cultural design they have studied. The aprons are used to protect their uniforms. The gallons of glue will be used for 100+ students to paper mache their masks. The paints and brushes will be used to decorate their masks according to their designs.
