My students are required to read a large amount of non-fiction writing. One of the best ways to keep their interest is by exposing them to articles that are relevant to their lives. Choices magazine contains articles that the students will not only find interesting but also give them an opportunity to think critically about important issues that affect their everyday lives. Empowering children to make positive, real-world decisions is one of the most important skills we can teach. My hope is, in addition to improved reading and writing skills, my students will leave my class as a better version of themselves.
