Most of my students come school with little to no reading confidence, and, without a school library, they have a limited supply of reading material to choose from. The majority of my students live on the south side of Chicago. My school is a low-income charter school with the majority of our students being African American and Hispanic. They are in 3rd through 5th grades. I teach reading for two hours to each grade level and my students rotate to another classroom for their other core subjects.
