This year our school was given a grant for technology, which includes an updated system for viewing items under a document camera or on a computer screen, as well as laptops for students to use. We're so thankful for the upgrades, but we are still missing a few details to make the experience complete. In order to use the new materials without losing student engagement, we need a system to implement lessons that integrates technology seamlessly. In particular, a cart that keeps instruction centralized helps maintain focus on the lesson--in contrast from previous years where we were teaching from behind the students' area of focus. The Sit & Teach Mobile Media Cart will enable me to keep students engaged from the front of the room while discussing the content displayed on our new screen. Using technology from the front of the room will directly impact student learning. Precious minutes lost from setting up a projector in the back of the room will transform back into time for instruction, discussion, and whole group activities. In addition, kindergartners need access to technology as a means for strengthening their fine motor skills. Before modern technology, the most common ways of strengthening these skills was coloring, cutting, gluing, and writing. Now, we have the opportunity to use our laptops in addition to these activities. With the use of a stylus, a student will be able to practice letter formation, handwriting, and mathematic problem solving in the digital age.
