With such a huge outpouring of support from our community, I have decided to create another Sensory project to help design a special space within our school for students who need a sensory break! These materials will allow me to create an entire unique space for children to "take a break" from the normal sensory activities of school. The teepee, along with chairs and the rug, will allow my kids to be able to retreat to a quiet, safe space in order to calm down independently. The balance ball will provide students with a fun place to sit, while working on core strength and muscular control. Other board games will allow students to bring a friend to the space and will teach my kids to play interactively with others, as well as learn social skills and de-escalation strategies from their peers.
