My students are truly amazing children. All the odds are stacked against them. They come from low incomes homes. They have special needs like autism, down syndrome, or learning disabilities. They ride buses for more than an hour to get to school. Still, they are happy vibrant children and they come school with smiles on their faces and hope in their eyes. They don't give up, they don't stop trying. Our school is large; almost one thousand students, and in an environment such as ours it is easy for twelve special ed students to be overlooked or left out, but my student make sure you see them. We make sure their voices are heard, and we are doing our very best to see that each and every one of them has their individual needs met. Yes, all the odds may be stacked against them, but my students are tiny first grade fighters, and they will make it, with a little help.
