These materials will take my students to a higher level of performance. By funding this project, you will be able to help these students close the achievement gap. My students will be less stressed during classroom instruction and able to focus more on their learning targets. When my students enter the room each day they won’t be anxious or distracted but rather engaged and excited. Flexible seating allows students to take ownership in their learning. Each day they are given the opportunity to choose the seat that helps them learn best. This shifts the classroom from a sense of "mine" to "ours" and creates a communal environment. Research shows that flexible seating is a way to improve student engagement, increase participation, and motivate students. Flexible seating allows students with ADD/ADHD, SPD, OCD, and more disabilities to move freely while focusing on coursework. Chair bands, wobble stools, and fidget toys allow the learner to move without disrupting instruction for others. Fluorescent lights can be over-stimulating and distracting. Tranquil blue light covers will reduce glare and eye strain as well as provide a calm learning environment. Calmer learning environments lead to higher achievement among learners.
