My classroom is made up of 25 students with different personalities, dreams, and aspirations. My classroom is unique as I share a double classroom with another teacher who has 25 students of her own. Sometimes we get together and co-teach and other times we pull smaller groups or just our own students. About 32% of the students in our class are English Language Leaners. Since I teach in a double classroom, furniture can be bulky and cumbersome. Slowly we are transforming the learning environment to include furniture that is flexible and comfortable. We include student choice and voice in our learning space. Flexible learning spaces have been well received by the students as it gives them a choice in the space they would like to work in. Choosing a learning space that will help them to learn, be productive, and succeed fosters collaboration, communication, and creativity.
