As a science teacher, I am always looking for ways to improve the student experience. Interactive toys are the perfect way to integrate more stimulating STEM education. My population of students is still very extrinsically motivated and I want my students to leave the classroom with the ability to see results and accomplishments, which will transition them into being intrinsically motivated. They need small wins. I have seen Sphero and Snap Circuits at other schools awaken an interest in coding and technology for students. In this knowledge-based economy it is important to shift my students away from service and manufacturing dreams to bigger dreams, but so many of my student's doubt their ability. These supplies will make these dreams achievable in the classroom and give them the confidence to pursue STEM opportunities out of the classroom.
