My students are hands on learners and need to see math displayed in numerous ways to help them understand. Currently my students are learning at a third grade math level. Throughout the year they will be learning how to multiply, divide, measure, estimate, identify shapes, weigh objects, tell time and much more. It is important that the students can physically take an object and place it on a scale to see how much it weighs to understand the measurement concept. In addition to the math manipulatives, we use whiteboards during our small group instruction daily and would benefit from having more whiteboard markers and personal erasers. My students have a tough time thinking abstractly and would learn and grow from the use of manipulatives throughout the year.
