There are so many authors who offer diverse stories from varied cultures and life experiences. Using books with rich writing and illustrations not only enhances children's reading and writing skills, but also broadens their minds and opens their eye to things far different from their own lives! With your donation we will receive sets of books that students can check out and that I will use as mentor texts (excellent examples) for our literature and writing units! These books will be used as read-alouds for student enjoyment, as well as being used as examples in both reading and writing workshop lessons. Students will use books as a reference for reading strategies such as theme, point of view, compare and contrast, inference, character development, and figurative language. Using a wide variety of diverse reading materials will increase exposure to new vocabulary and writing styles which will be encouraged in their own writing!
