Giving students the power of choice empowers them to take control of their own learning. Students develop their decision-making and critical thinking skills when given options to choose from. With more flexible seating options within our classroom, my students will be able to decide a seating arrangement that helps them learn best. In our current classroom, my Kindergartners have the traditional seating arrangement of a table and a chair that they use. However, one size does not fit all. Just like how each of my student's personality is unique, so are their needs to succeed. I currently give my students the choice to stay at their table, work on the rug, or use a pillow when reading in our class library, but I would love to give them more options for movement and collaboration. With more seating choices in our classroom, my students will be able to choose how they learn and who they learn with.
