I teach at a Title 1 school where over 80% of the children receive free or reduced lunches. Most of the children live in a house where there are no books and their parents don't speak English. The parents love their children, but they are extremely poor. These children do not have the same advantages as children in affluent schools. When they have a success, no matter how big or little, it is a celebration.
