In my social studies classroom, we would love to have access to printed news and current events magazines to enhance our library and to inspire learning. This year my students have struggled to understand why learning about geography and history is so important. I have noticed how excited they are, however, when they can make connections between current events and what they are learning in my class. I have chosen these magazine subscriptions to allow my students the opportunity to read independently and to make real-world connections. This project will help enrich their experience with the printed word by providing access to high interest and readable texts. Most importantly it will help form positive academic experiences and connect my students to the world community. We strive to be responsible by taking care of our classroom materials, and my students are always thankful for new books and magazines.
