I teach second grade in a large urban public school district in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Our entire district receives free breakfast every morning and free lunch. The school I teach at focuses on STEAMM, meaning we emphasize science, technology, engineering, arts, math/music and mindfulness. Our students love to learn and the hard work we do in the classroom shows it! Our school participates in a STEAMM science fair where in the past my students have won the school-wide fair for the K5-3 grade band. Active learning is a focus in our classroom, and I love connecting learning to the global community. Our school loves incorporating families into our learning as demonstrated with our Harvest Night, a math and literacy night, as well as a student art night. As part of our learning we focus on the "whole child" including how mindfulness continues to make a positive impact on school growth and social-emotional learning.
