Our district recently adopted a new math curriculum, Bridges. As part of this curriculum we will utilize a daily Math Corner as well as daily workshops where they're really digging into math concepts using manipulative and games where they use a lot of floor space. Our floors are hard and uncomfortable! During Math Corner, students need to sit close in a given space. Having a comfortable and defined place to concentrate and contribute lends itself to a smooth running distraction free environment! I believe in doing everything I can to set kids up for success. Uncomfortable kids who aren't clear on expectations can get off task, miss out on instruction, distract others and even get in trouble. A rug would help soften the seat and define the space!
