My classroom environment is inviting for all students. The physical space is organized, clean, and very open. This environment increases the feeling of classroom community and give students a sense of empowerment. A positive learning environment, or one that allows students to feel comfortable and confident as learners was my ultimate goal. Students love learning in my classroom for other reasons beyond these, however. They know they have regular opportunities to have control over their own learning. Students generally have opportunities to choose how and where they want to learn. We "ditched our desks" this year, and have a variety of different learning centers around our classroom. My students are 9 to 10 years old. They come from a variety of social and economic backgrounds. Many of my families have experienced hardships and continue to struggle to make ends meet.
