One area of child development that I have noticed can really use some additional attention is in the area of empathy/kindness. Helping young children learn to think about others, their feelings and the implications of their actions on others is critical for children of all ages and in particular, for very young children. This year, my classroom theme is kindness and empathy ~ "throwing" kindness around like it is confetti. To support this theme, I am requesting several picture books that will be used several times each week to provide examples of empathy in every day situations. I am also requesting several titles that have a multicultural array of characters to ensure that each child in my classroom will have the chance to see themselves within each story.
