The STEAM initiative is new to my school and is part of a big push within my school district to get all students involved in projects which incorporate science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). We began the year with a very small budget which allowed us to only buy a small quantity of basic consumable supplies such as paper, tape, paint, and glue. My students have done an outstanding job learning, designing, and creating with the limited resources they have, but they haven't really been able to unleash their true creativity and application of critical thinking skills without the necessary tools. Your generous donation would sufficiently stock our 'maker space' with the tools and supplies needed for over 200 students each semester to create prototypes of almost anything they can imagine. No longer would my students be stuck in a world of just cardboard and tape. The units I have planned can only be made possible with these vital materials. The electronic components and Makey-Makey's would be used for units in which the students would design and create interactive info displays, prototypes of toys, electronic instruments, video game controllers, and e-textiles like clothes that light up. The tools and other supplies would be stationed within the room to give the students the appropriate work spaces and resources to make their creations a reality. Student will need to complete a capstone project which will see them take one of their prototypes and turn it in to a marketable product.
