I will be implementing flexible seating in my classroom after doing lots of research over the summer! Research has shown that flexibility in different seating options encourages students to learn better with fewer distractions. This is especially true for special education students who in general have a hard time sitting on a carpet or on a hard wooden chair. They need sensory input while sitting. I will be using WOBBLE chairs, wobble cushions, balancing pods, and balance balls. These options will give them this opportunity. The students will get to choose which seating option works best for them. I will provide lapboards with clipboards for the students to use while working. The cushions and balancing pods can also be used on the carpet for whole group lessons. I can't wait to get it started. My students will be able to sit better for all lessons everyday.
