I teach in a school that serves birth-5th grade at a brand new school called Salish Coast Elementary. Our population qualifies over 50% free and reduced lunch. The mission of our district is to provide place-based learning opportunities for our students. We are unique in that we live on the water and are known as the Maritime Discovery Schools. My students are able to integrate learning standards by going outdoors. For example, we integrate measurement standards and social studies standards to visit local tribal lands to measure trees for the tribal biologist and learn about the native culture in our area.
