At Redwood Heights, we are fortunate to have in place the Fountas and Pinnell system of reading levels. That means every child in our school is assessed for reading level, placed in that level and then frequently assessed for growth. In that way, children are reading every day at exactly the right level and experiencing optimal growth and progress. The key to effectively implementing this research-based system of growing readers is an appropriate selection of books at various levels. The children "book shop" to choose for personal interest and enjoyment. Currently, there are no books to support this crucial part of my reading instruction. This project will supply my students with the books they need for leveled reading. It will serve to foster equity in my class as all children will have access to a first reading experience that propels them forward with a love of learning.
