In our classroom, I like using hands-on items to build a strong understanding. Having these supplies in their hands they are not only thinking through the problem but moving through it. I want math to be fun for my students. For many students, math is not enjoyable, "It's too hard." Our class doesn't run on worksheets, it runs on tangible items that help us work through our problem-solving. By using these items with my math class we will build number-sense and problem-solving skills. I had found in the past that giving students something in their hands engages them more into what we are learning. It may take more time, but it builds a deeper connection and understanding, which is worth it!
