Reading is one of the most critical subjects in elementary school. In order to succeed in other curricular areas, as well as in life, reading must be mastered. Many of our students are reading below grade level and aren't very interested in reading because it is so difficult for them. I need to find a way to change their minds about reading. Getting students interested and excited about reading is one of my major goals. They need to be able to read independently, for a sustained period of time, and need a quiet, comfortable area to do so. A Reading Nook in their classroom will allow them this opportunity. If they have an inviting place that they like to go to read, they will be more excited about reading in general. Improving their independent reading quality will assist them in achieving success in school, as well as on the MAP test.
